Following my last Mystical Wisdom blog, looking at your Divine Contract and how it was chosen, here I examine the help we are all individually given to help us fulfill our life’s mission.

We all have an invisible helper
In the last blog I was sharing the story handed down to us by Plato, who described how our Soul was able to make choices before incarnating again. He says we are able to choose the kind of life we want to live – whether human or as another creature. If we choose to be human, we can select from a great number of options – to be a hero, recognised in public, or to be a private person. We have a number of possibilities for the main life-topics, or themes. Astrologers identify twelve of these themes and call them ‘houses’. In my course, Grounding your Life Purpose, I call them ‘mansions’. These choices all add up to the main clauses in your Divine Contract.
But Plato also tells us we do not need to feel alone in this process. We get to bring a companion with us – a spiritual presence will always be there. The Greeks called this guiding spirit a daimon. Christians would describe your guide as an Angel – a Guardian Angel.
The Moirai
I really love the word daimon, because it sounds quite like ‘diamond’. For me, it seems to present more energy than a ‘Guardian Angel’, which is often associated with rather sentimental Victorian pictures of a blonde-haired lady in a white gown. This is unfortunate, because a Guardian Angel really is the same supportive navigator in your life as the Greek daimon.
Plato tells us we get to set up our relationship with our daimon before we visit the Moirai – the three Fates. Clotho has a spindle, spinning the thread for the weaving of a life story. Lachesis measures the thread required for the life you have chosen. Atropos has a pair of shears, ready to cut the thread…this defines how long your life will be. But however long that thread may be, the Fates have not made the choice for you – it is your creative, Soul impulse that allows those three characters to spin and ratify the Divine Contract you have signed up for.
Please read the previous paragraph again and repeat after me:
I have chosen this life. I chose what I wanted to create and how to set about manifesting it. I chose the timing of each stage of my journey in this life, including my departure.
Free will
Your Soul made a free will choice before you were born. There was no pressure put on your Soul. The only pressure now is to fulfill, as far as humanly possibly, what your Soul desires. You may think you will have to contend with the ‘slings and arrows of outrageous fortune’, but fortune actually contrives to steer you in the right direction. Fortune is a friend of your Soul, not an enemy. So, when things ‘happen’, be assured they arrive in your life as part of the story-tapestry you are weaving.
Think of someone creating a picture from threads, the warp and the weft are slipping between each other easily and the colours are beautiful. Then a skein of wool turns up which has knots in it, or perhaps it is not as substantial as the thread you need. When you become aware of this, you discard it and reach out for the best quality wool, so you can resume your weaving. You are exercising your free will – you are saying, “I don’t want this kind of wool – I want a better quality”.
No headaches
If you understand your Divine Contract, you will always know if something is right for you. There will be no confusion. The Assyrians called their guiding spirit a shedu, or a lamassu – a kind of private ‘god’. They said, he who goes into the market place without his god, wears a headache like a bandage. I think this is a brilliant observation – if you go out into the world, organising your life and meeting people without knowing why, your head will spin, wondering what your real purpose is.
But most of us don’t recall our Divine Contract at all… Plato has something to say about that as well. So look out for the next in my Mystical Wisdom blog series!
