Recommended books

I have an extensive library in my house and if you lived nearby I would be happy to lend books to you. But as that’s not really possible, I am building up a list here of books that might call to you. If they are still on my shelves and haven’t been sent to a charity shop, that’s because I consider them useful additions for long-term inclusion in my personal library. Some of them are intellectually meaty, grounded in academic scholarship, others suitable for a general readership.

You might find them in (or request them from) your local library – when they reopen of course! – or buy your own copy. If you buy from Amazon using the links below, we receive a small bonus for recommending you as an Amazon Affiliate. However small, those receipts are very welcome as a support for the commitment and hard work that goes into creating and maintaining this website.

This list started in Spring of 2020, prompted by the pandemic ‘lockdown’ which is likely to give people more reading opportunities. It will be growing over the weeks ahead, so come back from time to time and see whether something new has been added that catches your attention.
